In a tweet, Kiyiapi hit out at the organisers of the event for the huge attendance fee, terming it 'prohibitive.

Kiyiapi said the 50k VIP and 75k VVIP tickets were prohibitive, saying that not many people who would have wished to attend will afford.

"T.D JAKES is a great Minister of the gospel, towering motivation speaker, and business leader. He is here in Kenya BUT fees to attend are prohibitive. VVIP 75k, VIP 50k and others 25k. Organizers, why is this the case?" Prof Kiyiapi's tweet read.

"We had dinner with him at KICC in 2005 and it was very affordable. What is the difference this time? What was the need for heavy advertising if target clientele was known?" he posed.

The scholar's blistering tweet is the latest in a growing chorus of criticism of the T.D. Jakes event.

Mr Jakes, whose sermons are a sensation on YouTube racking up thousands of views, arrived this week ahead of his talk organised by Soar Africa.

Part of the proceeds collected will go towards supporting T.D. Jakes ministry.

Kenyans on social media appeared to have been shocked by the huge attendance fee.

The American in a series of promotional videos ahead of his event promised to live up to expectation, saying that he was looking forward to be in Kenya.
