Writing on Twitter on Friday, Mr Gachoka called on President Uhuru Kenyatta to support sportsmen and women like South African president Cyril Ramaphosa who was pictured supporting South Africa's rugby team, the Springboks.

Mr Gachoka advised President Uhuru to make supporting the sport's fraternity part of his legacy priorities.

"@StateHouseKenya - my brother Uhuru as S.A President @CyrilRamaphosa travels to support @Springboks I want to request that we support our sportsmen & women more with a professional approach make this a priority in your Legacy goals. TG @AMB_A_Mohammed @ShazieKe @DonaldBKipkorir, " Gachoka's tweet read.

Tony Gachoka's words come in the wake of a standoff between the Ministry of Sports and the Football Federation of Kenya (FKF) over funds to support the Harambee Starlets in their preparation for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

The standoff was only resolved after the ministry wired over Sh3 million into the accounts of FKF.

The national women's netball team was also stranded in South Africa over the inability to pay for meals and shelter.

Men and women representing the country in different sports have long decried what they call abandonment by the national government.

President Uhuru is in his second and final term that is set to expire in the year 2022.
