While addressing the nation from state house in Mombasa, the Head of state denied the claims stating that they are not his words and he has never mentioned anything about him extending term in office beyond 2022.

“You are the ones saying that. I outlined my plan from the word go,” he said.

In recent weeks, political leaders in the country appeared to sing the same song of president intending to extend his term in office a claim that President Kenyatta has cleared out today.

Deputy president Dr William Ruto, last week reiterated presidents remarks saying that he believes in president as he is a faithful man who respects democracy in the country

“I do not believe the President has any plans to change the Constitution to extend the presidential term limit.

“I say this because I know the President and he respects democracy. And, for the avoidance of doubt, the Jubilee Party has no scheme to change the Constitution and take back this country to the dark days of politics where power stuck in one corner,” he said.

Among the political leaders who echoed the same sentiment that president will not extend his term in office is the Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria who asked Kenyans to ignore the claims, saying that president Kenyatta will retire in 2022

“Ignore those claiming that the President wants to extend his tenure. Unless he talks himself, do not take any word from them,” he noted.
