A 3rd year student at Pwani University was on Sunday afternoon stabbed by her alleged boyfriend at the institution.
The lady identified as Naomi Chepkemboi was, however, rescued, and rushed to Kilifi County referral hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment.
Reports indicate that the alleged boyfriend was from Nairobi, and he allegedly stabbed the public health student after a quarrel as a result of relationship issues.
Confirming the incident, Pwani University Students Association (PUSA) chairperson Fikirini Jacobs termed the act heinous and barbaric.
Fikirini urged the students to remain calm as the police continue with their investigations.
“My attention was drawn to this heinous and barbaric act of murder attempt done on Naomi Chepkemboi by a young man from Nairobi alleged to have been in a relationship with her before.
"This act was reported to the police by members of the community and comrades neighbours to Naomi.
"I cut short my church service to see the OCS on the same and was directed to the emergency department of the Kilifi County Referral Hospital," Fikirini posted on Facebook.
The suspect was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in court later this week.
The attempted murder case at Pwani University comes just a few days after Ivy Wangechi who was a sixth year medical student at Moi University was hacked to death by his alleged lover in Eldoret.
