Leader of Abagusii community in the US Mr Cosmo Choy alias Ombori Monari has defended Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i over claims that he participated in fake gold scandal.
A section of leaders allied to DP Ruto over the weekend called for resignation of Dr Matiang'i, accusing him of failing to tell how GSU officers were guarding gold scammers.
But Mr Monari, a fierce critic of Ruto, on Sunday insisted that Matiang'i has nothing to do with the scam, adding that he's being dragged due to his performance in government.
"I don't know what's wrong with Ruto. He keeps on tensing. The fact is, Matiang'i cannot be a thief. He is one of the best minister who is focused to defeat cartels. Ruto is losing focus every day," he said.
Mr Monari reminded the DP of a land case in which he lost to an IDP. In 2013, Ruto was ordered to pay one Adrian Muteshi Sh5 million for using his land in Uasin Gishu without permission.
"Ruto is a land thief. He was convicted. The best thing he should do is to avoid fighting clean people like Raila and Matiang'i. He stole land in Eldoret and the court ruled against him. Let him respect Matiang'i."
On Sunday, sections of Gusii leaders defended Dr Matiang'i in the gold scandal. Former FKF President Sam Nyamweya warned that Abagusii people will viciously protect Matiang'i.
Chief suspect in the scandal Zaheer Jhanda, vindicated Matiang'i and Raila from the scam. He claimed that four Rift Valley MPs had approached him to implicate the duo.
