Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has fired a chief and his assistant after children reportedly drank themselves unconscious.
Mogosiek Chief and his assistant have reportedly been fired after five children were admitted to hospital after stumbling on and drinking illicit chang'aa liquor.
The incident is said to have happened on Wednesday, in Kaprotet village, Bomet County, when the minors emptied the 5-litre jerrycan containing the drink.
In a statement to newsrooms, Matiang'i said that the government will handle the matter and each and every other involving toxic and illegal products in the nation.
He added that the government through his docket will protect Kenyans from such products at all cost.
"We will spare no effort or resources in protecting Kenyans from these toxic substances especially if they affect the lives of our innocent children. We will act firmly and decisively on this matter," Matiang'i was quoted by Citizen Digital.
Two of the children were treated and discharged, with the police also nabbing 4 other people and alleged cartels involved in the brew production.
The Interior Ministry warned all local administrators against leniency and laziness, saying that stern measures will be taken against any chief or assistant under whose area of jurisdiction the product thrives.
“We will remain uncompromising in enforcing our zero-tolerance policy on brewing and distribution of illicit liquor,” further reads the statement from the Interior CS.
