Having been brought up in a poor family, Ringtone said, he never had an opportunity to wear shoes unlike his peers at that time.

"I'm today wearing golden shoes. There was a time I walked without shoes. I have scars to show jigggers infection," said Ringtone.

"However your past does not determine your future. I'm grateful to God. I now have gold shoes worth Sh16 million equivalent to a piece of land in Kiambu road or Syokimau," he added.

However, a section of his fans questioned the real price of the shoe claiming Ringtone was exaggerating.

"Can't be Sh16 million. We viatu ni Gikomba unajiskia hapa na juzi nmeziona hapo Gikosh na Sh200 na Leo sijaziona," wrote dj Kalito nyash.

An Instagram user even tasked Ringtone to post the receipt so that they can confirm the price of the shoes.

"Post receipt mambo ya kutubeba wana hatutaki," he wrote. Kariuki Michael told ringtone, 'huyu mungu si uniconnect naye'.

Despite starting as a gospel singer, Ringtone has struggled with his identity, forcing some fans at times to question his behaviors.

In 2011, Ringtone ran for Kitutu Masaba MP seat but performed dismally. He was born in Gesima but relocated to Nairobi due to hardship as a child.
