Kisumu County Executive Committee Member (CEC) in charge of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sports and Information Ms Achie Alai Ojany has finally apologised to members of the fourth estate.
On Tuesday, Ms Ojany termed as silly questions by journalists on how the numerous foreign trips by governor Anyang' Nyong’o are adding value to residents.
“Let me express my apologies for my remarks in reply to a question posed by a journalist at the press conference at the county government office. My remark was not founded on disrespect nor was it intended to demean the journalist,” the CEC said in a signed statement.
“It is indeed within your right to ask questions and I should have provided a better response. I respect your work and appreciate your support. Your comments are duly registered,” she said.
On Wednesday August 01, 2018, journalists under the Kisumu Journalists Network (KJN) gave Ms Ojany a 14-day ultimatum to apologise to them over her remarks or face their wrath, including not covering her events.
“The Kisumu Journalists’ Network demand for an immediate unconditional apology over the unfortunate reckless remarks by a public officer who should be clearly guided by Chapter six of the Constitution on Leadership and Integrity,” read a section of a statement by KJN officials.
