Kenya women's volleyball team, Malkia Strikers beat Kazakhstan 3 - 0 as Cameroon rallied from behind to oust Mexico 3 - 1 in the FIVB women's world volleyball championships 2018 edition match, on Saturday in Japan.

With a poor run over decades, Kenya and Cameroon broke the 40 years jinx for the African teams as they both won their opening matches, with the win being the first for the African teams since Tunisia's last victory in 1978.

Kenya, placed in pool D with Serbia, Dominican Republic, Brazil and Puerto Rico, beat Kazakhstan three straight sets to nil (25-23, 2522 and 25 -21) to romp to victory at Hamamatsu Arena.

Their fellow African nation, Cameroon overcame Mexico three sets to one (17 -25, 25-23, 25-16, and 25-21) at the Yokohama Arena.

The Cameroonians are in group A with the Netherlands, Germany, hosts Japan and Argentina.
