Deputy President William Ruto, Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga and Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi have identified Western Kenya as one of the regions that could influence the 2022 presidential race.
The trio has intensified their activities in the region as they position themselves to ascend to power when President Uhuru Kenyatta exits office.
Ruto, who is considered as one of the frontrunners in the race for power, has been making forays into the different parts of the region as he seeks to succeed President Uhuru.
The region backed Odinga in the past three general elections and the other candidate are determined to ensure that they get a junk of the vote from the region when that time comes.
Raila’s camp has told the allies of the second in command to brace for tough times ahead as their boss strategizes on how to come back stronger and better.
Mr Odinga’s allies have told pro-Ruto supporters to brace themselves for a bruising battle.
Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, former Vihiga Governor Moses Akaranga, Mumias East MP Ben Washiali and Hamisi MP Charles Gimose are the allies of the DP in the region.
The leaders have embarked on a mission to ensure he gains popularity in the area. Raila’s allies have, however, asked pro-Ruto’s allies that they are in for a rude shock when that time comes.
The leaders include Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, Senator Cleophas Malala and Nominated MP Godfrey Osotsi Oparanya has affirmed that the region will remain loyal to the Luo Political Kingpin as long as he remains in office.
“Western is home of the National Super Alliance which is still alive,” he said, as quoted by Daily Nation. He also asked the allies of the DP to respect Raila and other politicians in the region.
