Nakuru Town East MP David Gikaria has hit out the county government of Nakuru over what he termed as misuse of the ‘county court’ at the governor’s office to harass locals.
Addressing the media in Nakuru on Monday, the vocal legislator claimed that the courts of the defunct municipal council are now being used by the county officials to harass locals.
According to the legislator, the defunct municipal court should not be in operation since Nakuru Law courts is in place.
He claimed that together with other stakeholders, they will be pushing to have it removed at the county headquarters so that cases of citizens being harassed are not witnessed any more.
“County government is not supposed to run a court. They are using the same to harass citizens and we shall now be pushing to see to it that it is done away with," he said.
The legislator criticized the county government of Nakuru for not clearly stating whether the municipal boards of Nakuru and Naivasha are functional or not.
According to Gikaria, if the boards were functional then some duties that are being carried out by the county government would have been delegated to the boards as Nakuru looks forward to becoming a city.
He was responding to grievances raised by digital taxi operators in Nakuru, who claimed the county government was harassing them over parking bays within the CBD.
“I want to call upon the governor to delegate the responsibility of the board. You cannot tell us the board is in place yet we are not seeing it work” said Gikaria.
