The Amani National Congress (ANC) has maintained that he will not take up the Finance Ministry job as cabinet secretary if it is offered to him by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Speaking to Sophia Wanuna on the Kenya Television Network (KTN) Monday night, Mudavadi said that he was keen on playing his role as the opposition leader.
"No no no, I will not. I think I have stated this previously that I am firmly in the opposition and I reserve my right to make my comment, " the former vice president said.
Mudavadi said that he would continue to criticise the government when necessary and praise it when it does the right thing, arguing that it was important for someone to speak out when the government errs.
He previously served as the Minister of Finance during the Daniel Arap Moi presidency, work experience many cite as a reason why he is fit to replace Rotich in the finance docket.
At the time of writing this article, President Uhuru Kenyatta who is the appointing authority had not publicly weighed in on the matter of the arrest of Henry Rotich and his assistant Kamau Thuge.
Media outlets reported about jitters in the markets caused by the dramatic arrest.
