On Monday when the first Lady accompanied President Uhuru Kenyatta to the White House to meet US President Donald Trump, Melania Trump - US First Lady - expressed her joy in learning about the Beyond Zero campaign.

Through her official Twitter handle, she wrote: “It was a pleasure having @FirstLadyKenya at the @WhiteHouse today. I enjoyed learning about @BeyondZeroKenya & discussing our shared concerns for the well-being of children. #BeBest.”

Melania added that they had a good time in their discussion with Kenya's First lady on "shared concerns affecting children".

The Beyond Zero initiative was first launched in January 2014 by the First Lady in a move geared towards reducing maternal and child mortality in the country.

Through its partnership with the government, all 47 counties in the country have received a Beyond Zero mobile clinic and child mortality rates have gone down drastically.

The First Lady in February 2017 said her ultimate goal is ensuring that maternal healthcare in the country is flawless and that she will build a Beyond Zero Referral Hospital.

"I remain committed to and will not deviate from my ultimate goal, which is the betterment of maternal healthcare in this country, and, to build the Beyond Zero Referral Hospital. I want to reassure all Kenyans that this is a commitment that will remain with me throughout my life,” she opined as quoted by Capital FM.

The US had pledged to support her campaign that is aligned with Kenya's Universal Healthcare Coverage.
