Political analyst Brian Mutie has suggested that former Harambee Stars player McDonald Mariga could be someone's project in the Kibra parliamentary race.

Speaking during a wide-ranging panel discussion on KTN, Mutie contended that the fact that there was no evidence of Mariga being involved in projects in Kibra in the past, was an indication that he was being pushed by someone to run for the constituency's parliamentary seat.

"It has a huge implication on his nature as a person whether he really meant something serious for the people of Kibra, even before the previous elections were conducted, because somebody who has the heart of the people in his mind normally walks with those people even when there are no political battles. But this is a clear suggestion that Mariga is not on his own on this one. According to my opinion, perhaps he is being pushed by some quarters to go," he said

There had been claims circulating on social media that the veteran football star was a project of a senior Jubilee party politician.

Mariga, however, rubbished the claims, stating that he was not pressured by anyone to go for the Kibra seat in the by-elections slated for November.

Last week, he was disqualified from the race after his name was found missing on the voters' register.

A verdict on his appeal against his disqualification will be rendered on Monday.

Should the IEBC tribunal uphold Mariga's disqualification, Jubilee lawyers have said they will take their case to the courts.
