The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has locked out 13 hopefuls who were eyeing the party's ticket for the Kibra parliamentary by-election.
Speaking on Wednesday, the party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna said that only 11 of the 24 hopefuls who had applied to be included in the party nominations have been approved.
He said that the party will proceed to include their names in the nomination papers, ahead of the nomination exercise slated for Saturday, at the end of this week.
Speaking on Radio Citizen's Mjadala Wa Citizen on Wednesday morning, he added that the group has as well paid the required party fee to be considered for the same.
"11 people have paid up and are the same ones whose names will be printed in the ballot papers (Wale ambao wamelipa ni watu kumi na moja na hao ndio tutachapisha majina yao katika makaratasi)," he said.
The leader added that the approval was done through a strict vetting process in a bid to assure the party that only the right persons are given the opportunity.
According to the SG, it included the hopefuls appearing before a committee to explain their knowledge of party policies, to avoid future complains of unfair exclusion.
"We invited them to a hotel to vet them on grounds of theur understanding of party matters (Tuliwaita katika hoteli patulivu wakachujwa kutathmini vile wanaelelwa mambo ya chama)," he added.
This is as the party seeks to retain the seat left vacant following the death of its former holder Ken Okoth, who was in office in the same party's ticket.
