The Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) has dispatched a multi-disciplinary team of 40 specialists to help those affected in the West Pokot landslide.
More than 50 lives have so far been lost in the landslides, affecting the villages of Nyarkulian and Parua, which is reportedly caused by heavy rains.
According to MTRH CEO Dr Wilson Aruasa, the team will help those who have been affected in the landslide.
“The Team includes three Senior Consultants, eight nurses, ten clinical officers, three public health officers, psychological Counselors, Pharmacists among others,” said the MTRH boss.
Dr Aruasa who spoke to the press at the hospital premises also sent a message of condolences to the families and friends of those individuals who lost their lives in the landslide tragedy.
He said the Hospital's quick intervention is needed to save lives and contain the situation.
“MTRH team will focus on three camps where hundreds of displaced people are camped. They include Nyerkulian Primary school, Parua Primary school, and Tamkal Primary school,” he noted.
He further said that the hospital will continue receiving injured patients referred from Kapenguria County Referral Hospital requiring specialized medical care and also provide ongoing psychological counselling to the injured and the bereaved families.
