Wetangula, who was speaking during the annual cultural celebration of the Abatsotso community in Kakamega on Tuesday, claimed the meeting was driven by selfish agenda.

According to Wetangula, Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has no power to convene such a meeting with the claims that they wanted to forge unity among leaders from the Luhya community.

"A person who contested in the election and failed to garner 200 votes is the one who wants to come in Kakamega and declare that this is the leader of the Luhya community.

(Mtu ambaye amewahi kusimama kura na hakupata kura 200 ndiye anataka kukuja Kakamega kusema huyu ndio Kiongozi wa Waluhya)," Wetangula stated.

In a previous political rally, Amani National Congress who is gearing up towards contesting in the 2022 presidential election claimed that in order for a president to come for the Luhya community, he will have to seek external alliances.

Wetangula, on the other hand, opposed the move citing that the Luhya community does not need external forces.

Oparanya made the announcement of the mega ally after a meeting with leaders from the western region together with Opposition leader Raila Odinga at the home of COTU boss Francis Atwoli.

Mudvadi and Wetangula did not attend the meeting.
