Through his counsel Paul Ogemba, the Standard has been given seven days to tender an apology in two national papers over the article titled 'Why Ombeta's phone won't just stop ringing'.

In the article, Ogemba argues, the Standard portrays Mr. Ombeta, a criminal advocate for two decades, as an incompetent man, more of an ambulance chaser.

"The article portrays our client as a self seeker and ambulance chaser yet he has served in the profession for over two decades," reads the notice.

It adds: "We demand an apology within seven days failure to which we shall seek legal readdress on the matter."

Mr. Ombeta is handling Governor Okoth Obado's murder case and has often represented murder suspects throughout his profession.

The article describes Ombeta as a man who takes on high profile cases at the preliminary stages especially in asking for bond and thereafter, plays a peripheral role.

It cited the case of Obado in Sharon Otieno's murder where Obado started the case but only to leave it to Nicholas Ombija as lead counsel

Mr. Ombeta, an alumni of the University of Nairobi, hails from Nyamira County.
