Imagine the president spending a night in your home?
The incumbent Kitui West MP Edith Nyenze and his late husband Francis Nyenze had the privilege of hosting retired President Daniel Arap Moi for an entire night on an unspecified date in April 1998.
The closeness between Moi and Nyenze’s family made the former spend the night at the latter's rural home for a whole night.
Moi had during the visit toured the region to meet Kanu leaders from Kitui.
He also inspected various government projects and held a series of rallies in Kitui and Mwingi towns before he concluded the tour.
The then head of state's decision to spend the night at the late Nyenze's home, who was in his 30’s, left residents with lots of questions.
Previously, Moi would sleep in District Commissioners' houses if there were no state lodges within the area.
However, this time around, Moi said he wanted to dine at the late Nyenze’s house.
Edith wouldn't believe it when she was informed of Moi's planned visit to her rural home.
She told her husband Nyenze, who was introduced to the retired President by Former Vice President Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, that he was joking only for the retired President to keep his word.
“I told him to stop kidding me and that the president cannot spend the night in our remote village,” Nyenze told a local daily.
