Martin Kamotho better known by his moniker Githeri Man has broken his silence after a photo of him on a trolley while allegedly drunk went viral.
Speaking exclusively to K24 Television on Saturday, Githeri Man strongly rejected claims that he was completely drunk.
"No, no, I was just enjoying myself. I am the one who asked to be put on the trolley. I was carried so that I could pretend that I was a wealthy man. (A a, mimi nilikuwa tu raha yangu. Mimi nilisema niwekwe kwa trolley. Mimi nikuwa nimebebwa kwanza nijifanye kama sonko.), " Githeri Man contended.
The viral photo of Mr Kamotho fueled public concern that he had relapsed into drinking in spite of undergoing rehabilitation.
Kiambu Woman Rep Gathoni Wamuchomba took on the responsibility of taking him to a rehabilitation facility in 2018 in a bid to help him kick his alcohol addiction.
Githeri Man was catapulted to national fame in 2017 after a photo of him enjoying a maize and beans meal while waiting to vote went viral.
The hilarious photo inspired a bewildering array of social media media, making him an instant sensation on social media platforms.
President Uhuru Kenyatta honoured him with a Head of State Commendation (HSC).
