The MP allied to the Tangatanga group, also blamed the March 9, 2018 handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga for the widening cracks in the Jubilee Party, and the occurrence of chaos during public gatherings in some parts of Mt Kenya region.

Speaking to Nation on Thursday, Rigathi pointed an accusing finger at his Nyeri Town colleague Ngunjiri Wambugu for 'importing' bad manners from ODM and bringing them to the ruling party.

He said other leaders from Mt Kenya were causing chaos in public gatherings since Wambugu has been doing it and has never faced the law.

“People like Ngunjiri Wambugu belonged to ODM and after the famous handshake, they imported their hooliganism to the Jubilee Party and to an extent Mt Kenya region. The MP has disrupted about four meetings and he has never been arrested. That’s why other leaders decided to follow suit,” Rigathi said.

However, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru defended the handshake, and suggested that those opposing the truce could be behind the turmoil in the region.

“One only needs to look at whose followers the instigators of chaos are and you have the answer. The question we need to ask ourselves is, do we desire the leadership of chaos and intolerance?” she wondered.

Lately, Waiguru has emerged as the fiercest defender of the handshake and has repeatedly claimed Mt Kenya residents will have no problem supporting Raila should he vie for the presidency in the 2022 general election.
