Siaya Senator James Orengo on Sunday appealed to Deputy President William Ruto to join President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga in the walk to Canaan.
Speaking at Chebara Primary School during a thanksgiving ceremony following the retirement of Ruth Kiptoo, mother-in-law of Cherangany MP Joshua Kutuny, Orengo said that the time has come for the second in command to back the handshake between the two leaders for the sake of economic development.
He reiterated that there are good things that await Kenyans in what he referred to as the Promised Land.
The senator reminded Ruto and his allies of the need to speak in one voice when it comes to confronting the challenges facing the taxpayers from different corners of Kenya.
“Uhuru Kenyatta na Raila Amolo Odinga wakashikana mikono. Hilo tunataka Kenya ambayo inastahili heshima vile nyimbo yetu ya taifa inavyosema. Tuwe na kila mtu awe chini ya sheria. Uhuru Kenyatta na Raila Amolo Odinga wanaseme tunaenda Canaan. Na waisiraeli walipokuwa wanatoka Misri. Ile watoto wote wa Yakubu na makabila kumi na mbili ya Isiraeli wote walienda Canaan. Sasa nataka tuige Uhuru Kenyatta na Raila Amolo Odinga sote twende Canaan. Hata Ndugu yangu Murkomen ambaye tuko naye Seneti namwomba amwelezee nataka twended naye Canaan sitaki abaki nyuma,” Orengo said.
This loosely translates to; "Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga united. We want Kenya where respect is paramount just like our national anthem states. Let everyone work under the law. Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga are saying we are going to Canaan. When the Israelites were leaving Egypt. All the offspring of Jacob and the twelve tribes travelled to Canaan. We want to follow the footsteps of Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga united to reach Canaan. Even our brother Murkomen we work with him in the Senate I want him to tell him (Ruto) I want us to go with him to Canaan."
