Thirdway Alliance Party Leader Ekuru Aukot push for a referendum has been dealt yet another big blow after the Makueni ward representatives shot Puguza Mizigo bill down.
On Tuesday, the Members of the County Assembly rejected the Bill on the grounds that it has no good intention.
They said that Aukot should go back to the drawing board and figure out what he wants for Kenya before presenting any proposals to the county assemblies for approval in future.
They also argued that the Former Presidential candidate had suggested an unrealistic solution to the problems facing this nation.
Led by Nguumo Ward Rep Alfred Mutuku the MCAs said that Aukot should have taken more time to consult Kenyans on their needs before presenting any proposals.
While chairing the sitting, Assembly Speaker Douglas Mbilu said that it was evident that the members were not ready to support the same. The lawmakers argued that the idea of the reduction of nominated and elected leaders doesn’t add up at all.
Assembly Majority leader, Kyalo Mumo seconded Mutuku in the rejection of the proposals, saying he doesn’t agree with the reduction of the presidential term limit.
“This one-term presidency would make us the first people to practice that so undemocratic system,” said Mr Mumo, as quoted by Daily Nation.
The rejection came after the Nakuru and Nairobi County Assemblies also joined counties that have rejected the proposals.
