Just 24 hours after his unceremonious exit from Orange Democratic Movement party, details have emerged on what could have possibly precipitated Raila Odinga to sack Wafula Buke.

A revolutionary Marxist par excellence and by his own right, Mr Buke has been instrumental in refining the ODM party besides crafting political strategies for Odinga in the last one decade.

A short preview of his Facebook page potrays an image of a progressive extremist who reads much from the likes of Thomas Sankara, Che Guevara and Fidel Castro of Cuba.

On Friday, a defiant Buke, even as he regretted the sack, vowed to continue fighting from within the ODM, to defeat certain aspects he believes are not being done right.

"Friends and enemies, I was sacked yesterday as Director for Political Affairs and Strategy of ODM. Mr Edwin Sifuna, Mr Oduor Ongwen and Ms Pareno, since you can't pick my calls, I hereby confirm receiving your letter.

"I ruffled snakes and have received my feedback. I disagree with you so I will see what to do about that. I just lost income but the struggle for a better ODM is for us all. The funeral for losing a job continues. No burial arrangements," wrote Mr Buke," he said.

A source within Orange House now says Buke is a victim of anti-reformists within ODM who have been advocating for the status quo even when things are not working.

To save him, he says, Mr Odinga had no option but to relieve him following pressure from the forces, some whom Buke named in his message.

"It's not sacking per se. Mzee (Raila) understands the fights Buke is going through. To minimize friction within the party, he had to just cede to pressure from the forces," he said.

"But I can assure you that he remains a key figure in Odinga's strategy team. Perhaps he will now have to operate from Capitol Hill. Odinga doesn't want to lose all. He sacrificed him temporarily."

Early this year, Buke rejected appointment of Senator Judith Pareno and ODM Executive Director Oduor Ong'wen to three-member committee that was set to review a taskforce report on nominations.

In his protest, Buke only recommended Nyando MP Jared Okello. He accused the two of bungling nominations for a long period of time.

Few days later, Dr Oduor resigned from the committee, saying that his participation would erode confidence following Buke's accusations.

"Today, following consultations with the Party Leader H.E. Hon. Raila Odinga and the National Chairman Mr John Mbadi and considering the need for the implementation process to not only be credible but be seen to be so, the Executive Director of the Party Mr Oduor Ong’wen has opted out of the sub-committee," ODM said in a statement.

So controversial Buke is that he was reportedly disowned by a sponsor who facilitated his trip in May to South Africa as an election observe.

The revolutionary Marxist openly attended a rally by Economic Freedom Fighters, whose party leader is leftist politician Julius Malema.
