Former Mukurwe-ini MP Kabando wa Kabando has said that Kandara Member of Parliament Alice Wahome's speech during the burial of Former first Mayor of Nairobi Charles Rubia was on point.
In a series of tweets on Tuesday, Kabando said that the lawmaker was right to air her grievances only for Kenyans to overreact on the same.
He argued that Wahome proved that she is not a psychopath but the media and leaders decided to take the matter to another level.
"We’re overreacting on the original statement by @AliceWahome asking President to ensure a legacy of democracy. Highlights of Rubia’s eulogy was a February 1974 statement in parliament that MPs must have right to speak boldly. I thought that was apt, sincere tribute," he tweeted.
Kabando, however, said that Wahome crossed the lines when she started claiming that President Kenyatta is the stumbling block to the economic growth of this nation.
Kabando said that the lawmaker must learn to proceed with decorum whenever she is addressing issues affecting the electorate.
"Her speech made at the funeral shouldn’t be condemned. Failure to speak truth to power and fear to openly honestly state grievances breeds sycophancy, intolerance and era of “cheering crowds”. Unfortunately, the MP had irresponsibly clearly crossed lines before, thus suspicions," he added.
Wahome, on the other hand, maintains that her statement was blown out of context and that she will not apologise over it.
