The debate has led to the mention of retired President Daniel Moi with a section of locals claiming he grabbed part of the Mau Forest.

However, in a past video, Moi maintained that Mau Forest issue should be dealt with by Rift Valley leaders.

While in Keiyo at a thanksgiving ceremony organized in his honour in 2009, the retired president suggested what he believed was the best way to carry out Mau Forest evictions.

"I have retired but my mouth was not zipped. Those coming from outside Rift Valley and telling us how to deal with the Mau issue should leave it to local leaders. They must also consult people and offer an alternative to those to be evicted. (Nimestaafu lakini sikufungwa mdomo. Mtu anatoka nje, hawa viongozi wanatoka nje na kuja Rift Valley na kusema watu wafanye ivi, hakuna viongozi na wanaumme Rift Valley? Lazima watu waulizwe si wabunge pekee wajua wanaenda wapi)," Moi partly said in a video posted by KTN.

Moi's son, Gideon is also on record commending about the Mau evictions.

Speaking in Triangle area, Narok South Constituency in July 2018, the Baringo Senator asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to lead the evictions and make sure they are done in a humane manner.

He also said anyone with a title deed should not be evicted.

“The President should take charge and ensure the evictions are done humanely, the county and national governments should rise up to the occasion and look after citizens,” Senator Moi said as quoted by Standard.
