A family in Migori county has been thrown into mourning following the untimely demise of its son who drowned in Lake Victoria on Sunday.
Tyson Sunga died in the lake at Sori Beach Nyatike, hours before sitting his first Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) which kicked off on Monday.
The 19-year-old who was to sit his paper at St Paul's Odendo Secondary School is said to have left his home to go wash his clothes on the shores of the lake before being found dead.
The incident was confirmed by area Sub County Police Commander Stella Too who said that the body of the deceased was later found floating on the lake by fishermen.
Too noted that family members revealed to the police that the deceased was epileptic, and might have suffered a severe attack while near the lake, resulting in the death.
However, the police boss noted that officers are investigating the death with the intention of establishing the real reason behind the death.
“He had gone to the lake for laundry. Unfortunately, he drowned in the process. Reports from the family indicate that the boy was epileptic and could have suffered a severe attack although the matter is under investigations,” said the police boss as quoted by Daily Nation.
The body of the deceased is set to undergo a pathological test as part of the investigations and is being preserved at the Sori Lakeside Mortuary pending the exercise.
