Although very synonymous, President Uhuru Kenyatta breached protocol on Saturday during the launching of revamped Dandora KCC.

As part of Ushirika Day celebrations, Uhuru launched the Kenya Cooperative Creameries, slightly 10 months after launching the Sotik branch.

But as he stood to speak, Uhuru invited Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko to deliver his speech, a clear breach of presidential protocol practiced for years.

It is not clear why Trade and Industrialization CS Peter Munya chose to invite President Uhuru Kenyatta without acknowledging the presence of Governor Sonko.

Uhuru said: "Lakini, mbele nizungumze kidogo, unajua kila mji uko na mwenyewe na sitaki afikirie nimemsahau. Acha nimruhusu Governor Sonko aongee kidogo halafu tuendelee."

(Before I speak a little bit, you all know every town has her leader and I don't want him to think that we have ignored him. Let me allow Governor Sonko to speak to you).

While speaking, Sonko acknowledged that it was improper to speak after the Head of State had taken over in the podium but went ahead to summarize his speech.

Sonko, who is currently leading a faction called Team Wanjiku, warned politicians against premature campaigns, arguing that they should first support the President's agenda.

I reinforced the President’s call on leaders to shun premature election campaigns and instead focus on delivering development promises to wananchi," he noted.

In 2014 Jamuhuri Day, Uhuru invited opposition leader Raila Odinga to speak moments after DP William Ruto had finalised his speech.
