A 28-year old man from Riwo Ward West Pokot County has received a 17-year imprisonment after he was found guilty of sodomizing his 3-year-old son.
According to Standard Media, Issah Kemoi was sentenced on two counts.
The first count was sodomizing his son on May 16, 2019 while the second one was causing grievous harm to a minor.
Kapenguria Law Courts Principal Magistrate Samuel K Mutai in his ruling slapped Kemoi with seven years for the first count and 10 years for the second one
The suspect was given a 14-day window to appeal against the ruling.
“Considering that it’s his first offence, I, therefore, sentence you to 17 years in prison for both counts. You have 14 days to appeal if you think you have been offended,” Mutai ruled.
The magistrate pointed out that the statements provided by the five witnesses presented in court backed up each other.
He also added that he did not see any reason as to why the 3-year-old who was also part of the witnesses would lie against his father.
The witnesses revealed that the father had tortured the son and caused him harm by burning him with a cigarette on the thighs.
He was also accused of cutting the son's private parts and causing him unbearable pain.
