Vocal lawyer Steve Ogolla has said Members of the Nairobi County Assembly ought to have impeached Governor Mike Sonko, following a court ruling baring him from accessing his office, over corruption related charges.
Speaking during a panel discussion on Citizen TV, Ogolla argued said the public has lost trust in the governor, following the court ruling.
"The MCAs ought to have picked it up to impeach the governor. Right now, Governor Sonko is not fit to serve as per the jurisprudence from Mumbi Ngugi," he said.
He also faulted governors; Moses Lenolkulal (Samburu) and Ferdinand Waititu (Kiambu), over their recent plans to set up parallel offices after suffering a similar fate.
According to the lawyer, this would amount to contravention of a court order, translating the ruling as a technical suspension from executing gubernatorial responsibilities.
"In terms of interpretation of the law, the judiciary has the last word. When they say do not return, don't come out and start manipulating that judgement by saying I don't need to run the county from the designated office. The office of the governor is not a building, it is the execution of that mandate," he said.
