A number of leaders have paid tribute to golden-girl Hellen Obiri following an emphatic victory in World championships in Doha, Qatar.
Obiri, a KDF Sergeant, beat her compatriot Margaret Chelimo, clocking 14:26:72 in a race that gave Kenya a well deserved forth gold medal.
Two years ago, Obiri won the title and is one of few athletes who managed to defend the title successfully ahead of Olympics next year.
Woman Representative Jerusha Momanyi termed the victory 'well deserved' adding that Obiri is now a role model to thousands of Kenyans.
"She did it passionately. She started as an amateur, but now she's a legend. A role model to many. Perhaps another KDF promotion," she said.
Similar sentiments were shared by Nyamira Leader of Majority Duke Masira, who said there is need for nurturing of more talents from the region.
"A well deserved medal. Hopefully, she will get another promotion. This is a wake up call to Abagusii. We can do well in athletics," he added.
Similar tributes were paid by Kisii Woman Representative Janet Ong'era and Governor James Ongwae, who have hosted luncheon before for Obiri.
At home, the KDF officer has held numerous activities meant for talent nurturing. She now joins the league of Nyantika Mayioro, Charles Asati, Naftali Temu among others.
