Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga on Sunday urged Kibra residents and Kenyans at large, to patiently wait for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), whose report is yet to be made public.
Addressing a thanksgiving rally at DC Grounds in Kibra, the ODM supremo said the constituency's by-election was a dress rehearsal for BBI.
"Kibra was the first step for the BBI. It has shown that Kenyans are ready for the BBI (Kibra ndio imekua hatua ya Kwanza kwa BBI. Imeonyesha ya kwamba Wakenya wako tayari kwa BBI)," Raila said.
He said the Kibra by-election was testimony to the change that BBI will bring to the country, adding that ODM's candidate in the contest Imran Okoth had been supported by all ethnic groups in the country.
"BBI is coming, it will end politics of tribalism, corruption and discrimination. It will bring cohesion among all Kenyans. (BBI inakuja, BBI itamaliza siasa za ukabila, itamaliza siasa za ufisadi, siasi za ubaguzi, italeta utangamano na maaungmanao miongoni mwa wa Kenya wote.," Odinga said.
During the campaigns, Okoth's supporters told voters that a vote for the ODM candidate was a vote for BBI.
The contents of the initiative are still subject to public speculation as the report has not yet been handed over to President Uhuru Kenyatta and Odinga.
A section of Mount Kenya politicians have vowed to oppose the initiative should a parliamentary system that will take away the power to elect a president from the people be recommended.
