Former Mwingi Central lawmaker Joe Mutambu now says that the input of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is the cause of fears in Deputy President William Ruto's camp, regarding the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
The DP has been firing shots at the BBI, which is expected to submit a report of its proposals on how to solve the nation's recurrent problems.
But the DP has been uncomfortable with both the BBI and Raila's union with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
He has repeatedly claimed that the BBI is being used to front a referendum with the aim of impressing a few politicians by creating government positions for them.
Mutambu says that the DP distrusts Raila and thinks that he has a hidden goal, well aware that he is the man who can frustrate his future political ambitions.
Speaking on Wednesday night, he likened the Raila-Ruto situation to an animal peace meeting, but the mouse cannot keep calm, thinking that the cat, though calm, is in an attacking posture.
"Some people are observing that their enemy, who has troubled them in the past, is calm but standing on one foot (Kuna watu wanaona yule mtu wanapambana naye, na ambaye hapo mbele amewasumbua, ametulia lakini amesimama na mguu mmoja)," he said.
He made the remarks on Radio Citizen's Pata Shika on Wednesday night, also attended by Lugari MP Ayub Savula.
He also sought to clear the thought, which has been manifesting itself in Ruto's camp, that Uhuru and Raila are using the BBI to amend the constitution.
According to the former lawmaker, even if they are after changes, it will be their own draft until it's scrutinized by Kenyans and nationally accepted.
He added that they, just like any other Kenyan, have a right to initiate changes, wondering why Ruto and team did not fire as much attacks at Thirdway Alliance Leader Ekuru Aukot and his Punguza Mizigo bill.
"Those complaining that Uhuru and Raila want to amend tjw constitution; who sent Aukot? He was exploiting his constotutional right, Uhuru and Raila have theirs too (Wale wanalalamika ati Uhuru na Raila wanataka kubadilisha katiba, na Aukot nani alimtuma? Alifanya haki yake ya kikatiba. Uhuru na Raila pia wako na haki yao)," he added.
Raila and his allies have hinted that the BBI taskforce will propose major constitutional changes.
