McDonald Mariga should not bank on his football playing record for an election in the Kibra by-elections, Kisumu Woman Representative Rosa Buyu has warned.
The former Parma and Inter Milan midfielder is among the hopefuls seeking to fill the vacancy left by the late Ken Okoth and is seeking the seat on the Jubilee Party ticket.
However, Buyu of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party on Tuesday warned that as much as he might be a good footballer, that will not reflect in his political scorecard.
Speaking on Citizen TV's Day Break, she noted that Mariga is no longer in the sports arena but has joined the political field and will, therefore, be judged on the basis of being a politician.
"But now he is not in Kibra for football, he is in Kibra for politics. The people are going to look at him as a politician. His positive attributes was as a footballer, am not gonna say Mariga is such a good footballer let me vote for you," she said.
At the same time, she also admitted that politicians are the culprits in the growing division among Kenyans, especially on political lines.
She admitted that the political class has not been playing its role in uniting Kenyans, but has actually been doing the opposite.
"It's true because we incite the people, we make the people think of things that do not really help them economically or uplift their lives," she added.
