The Sunday outburst by Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot has now lifted the lid on the games that were played in the Senate to save some officials from graft allegations.

Cheruiyot on spoke of how Jubilee senators walked out of the Senate to defeat Sh1.5 billion Ruaraka land saga report under strict instructions following a meeting allegedly held at Deputy President William Ruto's office.

"About six months ago, some people brought some issues against CS Matiang'i in the Senate. DP Ruto summoned me to his office and when I went there I found the CS. When we went to the Senate, I led a walkout of Jubilee senators from the chambers and the motion was defeated,” he said.

Consequently, it would have led to the then Education Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i and his Principal Secretary Dr Belio Kipsang losing their jobs, after being implicated.

Records indicate that only senators allied to the opposition and Jubilee's Johnson Sakaja (Nairobi) took part in the sitting alongside four other Jubilee senators.

With the revelation detailing underhand methods that were used to save either the CS or the PS, Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jnr is of the opinion that the plan was actually to save Kipsang and not Matiang'i.

“What Cheruiyot is not telling the country is they were protecting Kipsang, and that Matiang'i just happened to be a beneficiary of their action,” said the Makueni Senator.

CPAIC chair and Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang too claimed that the plan was to save the duo.

“It is true that some senators were whipped to stay out so as to protect Matiang'i and Kipsang. I feel vindicated by the claims that I did my job and tabled a report in the Senate,” he said on Monday.
