Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno has called on athletes to avoid doping at all costs since it's ruining their career.
Speaking during the launch of the 3rd Eldoret City Marathon at the county headquarters on Friday, Chemno said doping portrays the country in a bad image.
The Eldoret City Marathon is a race sponsored by the Uasin Gishu County Government and offers an opportunity for talent identification.
Through its Climate Action theme, the race also promotes collective responsibility in harnessing sport to combat the effects of climate change.
“I am calling upon athletes to run clean, it’s a very big shame when we are told that a certain athlete has been caught in doping. It's not good for the country and athletes as a whole,” said the deputy governor.
Chemno reiterated that the athletes should aim at preserving their dignity.
“Better have the honour you deserve than have one that you don’t deserve. Don’t worry about the position you get but complete the race without using any drugs,” added Chemno.
This year's edition of Eldoret City Marathon has been scheduled for April 19 on the streets of Eldoret town.
Chemno also praised the race as pride for Kenyan athletes saying through the race, upcoming athletes will have a chance to showcase their abilities to mangers who always attend the race.
