Kisii Governor James Ongwae has vowed to sack striking nurses who defied orders by President Uhuru Kenyatta to resume work.
In a statement issued by the county secretary Patrick Lumumba on Friday, Ongwae said striking nurses will be sent home for failing to heed to court orders.
"We are not going to continue condoning the nurses who don't want to respect the rule of law and the President himself. There are more qualified and trained nurses who are jobless to replace the striking nurses who seem to be tired with work," he said.
He said that he has already written a letter to the officer in charge of health in the county to take action against the nurses who refused to report back to work as ordered by the Head of State.
"I have sent out a letter to the officer responsible for health services in the county government to ensure those nurses who didn't report to work are sent home and be replaced immediately. Kisii residents won't continue suffering seeking medical attention expensively at private hospitals at the expense of greedy nurses who are valuing money instead of lives," he added.
