A photo that captured the Kenyan flag during a World Cup fixture in Moscow, Russia caused quite a stir on social media for days on end.

Kenyans could not hide their excitement that their flag had been spotted in the stands of the global tournament.

What Kenyans did not know was just who waved that symbol of our national unity.

The young man who waved that flag is Ogom Asugo.

He hails from Marsabit County in North Eastern Kenya.

Mr Asugo went to Russia thanks to the FIFA Festival Foundation.

He is passionate about football and plays for a local team in Kargi, Marsabit County.

The photo was taken during a fixture between Spain and the hosts Russia, a game that was decided by penalty shootouts.

Russia prevailed.
