This is according to the Executive Director of Transform Empowerment for Action Initiative (TEAM) George Collins Owuor, who says the strikes deprive residents of Kisumu County health right, enshrined in the constitution.

Addressing the press in Kisumu on Monday, Owuor said that Governor Nyong’o should put things in order in the health docket, given the fact that he once served as the Minister in charge of medical services.

“The governor should realize that the people of Kisumu have a right to better medical provision. That is our right, and we have no apology about that,” said Owuor.

His sentiments came shortly after Kisumu County Executive Member (CEC) in charge of Health Professor Judith Attyang’ urged striking doctors to pick their promotion letters, failure to which their positions will be deemed vacant.

Doctors in Kisumu County have been on strike since December 06 (the third strike this year) to push for the implementation of Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) signed in 2017. Among the articles in the CBA is the promotion of doctors in Kisumu County.

Last week, doctors in Kisumu County declined to pick promotion letters, terming them love letters from Governor Nyong’o’s administration.
