In a tweet on Thursday, the renowned scholar posed a number of fundamental questions that include; How did the company evade taxes to the tune of 14.4 billion shillings? Where was the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) as this was happening?

In his tweet, Prof Kiyiapi appeared to suggest that there was complicity by officials at KRA.

"One QUESTION we must all ask: how did KEROCHE evade taxes to 14.4 billion? This didn't happen overnight, did it? Where was KRA all this time? Shouldn't complicit officials at KRA be charged as well?" his tweet read.

Sleuths from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations pounced on Tabitha Karanja and her husband Joseph Karanja and took them away for grilling.

In a statement, Tabitha Karanja decried unfair treatment and appeared to suggest that her company was the victim of a witch hunt.

She protested her company's innocence, stating that her organisation had met all its tax obligations as required in law.

The office of the Director of Public Prosecutions ordered the arrest of the company's directors after receiving evidence from the taxman that Keroche Breweries had not fulfilled its tax obligations in full.
