US-based political activist Lister Nyaringo has taken a swipe at Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i and President Uhuru Kenyatta over Moi Day celebrations.
While the state will not hold formal celebrations for Moi Day on Thursday, the government declared it a holiday, despite contention over its validity.
The court last year maintained that the day still remains a holiday. It was introduced by retired President Daniel Moi, who ruled Kenya for 24 years.
And Nyaringo has dismissed Kenya as a failed state, following the decision to celebrate Moi Day, who he accuses of being a dictator throughout his stay in power.
"It's only failed states that celebrate holidays introduced by their dictators. Why Moi Day if we may ask CS Matiangi or Uhuru? he argued.
"We cannot continue holding such holidays. The goverment needs to be realistic and do away with it. It does not make any sense to the people of Kenya," he added in a text.
For 24 years, Kenya celebrated Moi Day, which was set aside to remember the day the retired President took over power formally from Jomo Kenyatta.
Moi left office in 2002 after the expiry of his term. His favorite successor Uhuru Kenyatta, failed to impress then. He would win the seat a decade later.
Nyaringo is one of Abagusii community leaders in the United States of America and a close ally of opposition leader Raila Odinga.
