A health crisis is looming in Kirinyaga county after striking medics defied a directive to resume work.
The health officers have stayed away from their work stations even after the labour court declared their strike illegal.
Governor Anne Waiguru directed the workers to return to work by Friday.
On Thursday, Waiguru had extended an olive branch to the medics to report to work after the labour court declared the strike illegal.
The county boss had also changed her tune on punishing the striking doctors before the new development.
"The court ruled that the health workers' strike is declared permanently illegal, unlawful and unprotected. I have extended an olive branch to all Medics wishing to return back to work. They should do so by noon tomorrow or else face termination," she tweeted.
A spot check conducted by Daily Nation, however, indicates that the health services have been interrupted after medics refused to obey the directive.
Central region Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists Union Secretary Dr Gor Goody has said that the medics will not report back to work until their demands are addressed.
He said that they want county casual workers who were fired to be reinstated to facilitate the cleaning of the facility.
