The National Youth Congress has criticised President Uhuru Kenyatta over the recent appointments made to various state agencies.
Earlier this week, former Othaya MP Mary Wambui was appointed to chair the National Employment Authority, an appointment that has not gone well with most youth in the country.
The congress accused the Jubilee administration of sidelining the youth when it comes to government appointments, yet, millions of young people are skilled and jobless.
In an open letter to the president, the congress said such appointments do not reflect the promises made to the youth during the campaign period.
“The recent appointments, just as those made in previous governments, left out the youth and are therefore very disappointing. The appointments continue to send a bad signal to the youth,” the letter read in part as quoted by Daily Nation.
The congress urged the government to set aside a percentage of all state appointments to cater for the youth.
"The government should reserve a percentage of all appointments, including the positions of principal secretaries and heads of departments, for qualified youths with the capacity and passion to serve our country.
"The youth are no longer spectators but players. They must be part of the public service. Equality is important," the congress said.
