A woman who was set on fire by her husband in Nakuru County has succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment at the hospital.
25-year-old Lucy Nyira was doused with petrol and set ablaze by her husband, Bernard Kariha on Saturday night.
The 24-year-old man attacked his wife after a domestic quarrel when he accused her of coming home late.
Nyira was rushed to Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital following the incident where she had visible burns to her torso, face, neck, arms, and thighs.
A nurse at the hospital, Jenipher Mathenge said Nyira was scheduled for theatre before she died at around 5:30am.
“Nyira passed on at a time when she had been scheduled for theatre,” said nurse Mathenge as quoted by standardmedia.co.ke.
Standardmedia.co.ke reports that before Nyira died she said her husband got upset after she arrived home from a business trip to Nairobi.
Nyira who had gone to purchase second-hand clothes for reselling arrived late due traffic and she tried to explain to Kariha.
“Traffic and diversions on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway caused the delay. I explained that to my husband but he did not believe me. He expected me to have taken two hours,” said Nyira.
Nakuru Police boss Stephen Matu who confirmed the incident said investigations into the incident are ongoing adding that the suspect will be arraigned in court.
“We will arraign the suspect in court where he shall be charged with murder,” said Matu.
