Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi has affirmed his interest to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022, after he leaves office.
Speaking during the requiem mass for Adelaide Shikanga, the late wife of former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, Mudavadi said he has what it takes to become the fifth President of Kenya.
He said he has previously supported other candidates, and it is now time for them to support him, adding that he will not be stepping down in favour of anyone this time round.
“In 2022, I will be there and my name will be on the ballot. I am officially in the field and there are no two ways about it. It is my time and I am ripe to be the fifth President of the Republic of Kenya,” he said as quoted by Standard.
Mudavadi made the remarks after Deputy President William Ruto asked him, and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang'ula to join his team ahead of 2022.
"I have wanted to meet Mudavadi and Wetang'ula to agree to work together especially in supporting one of their own (Mariga) in the Kibra by-election. This should be the beginning of a unified Luhya community," he said.
