Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has lifted the lid on his ongoing talks with Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko over his (Owino) possible takeover as deputy governor.
Speaking on Wednesday, Owino revealed that he and the embattled county boss have been in talks, where he was to be appointed to fill the vacant seat.
The youthful lawmaker who has been very close to the county chief lately said that the progress of the discussion will be made open to the public in due time.
"There were such discussions but we have shelved the issue currently. But we will make the issue public (Kulikuwa na hiyo discussion, tulikaa chini tukaongea lakini tumeweka hiyo mambo kando kidogo lakini tutawaeleza)," he said.
He spoke in an interview on Milele FM on Wednesday morning, where he also noted that he is ready for the job in the instance that he takes over.
Babu said that he will prioritize on fighting city cartels, whom he believes is the force behind Sonko's current woes, where he is facing corruption allegations in court.
"If put there, I will double Sonko's fight against cartels. Let them be ready to take me to court daily (Mimi nikiwekwa pale nitapiga cartels double ya vile Sonko anawapiga. Wawe ready kunipeleka kortini kila siku)," he added.
However, the plan might be disabled in the event that the governor is barred from office by the court.
