Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku of the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi has charged two police officers, Simon Gichuhi and Caroline Njeri with three counts of robbery.
The two who are connected with the Sh72 million Nairobi West ATM heist money were charged on Monday.
The two are said to have committed the offenses on September 5, 2019 in Nairobi West.
In the first count, they were charged with robbery with violence. They are said to have been armed when they robbed over Sh.74 million, 38 cassettes, 13 purge bins and 13 canvas.
In the second count, they were charged with destruction of property. They are said to have damaged 36 cassettes and 11 purge bins at Thogoto forest within Kiambu County.
In the third count, they were charged with conspiracy. They pretended to be officers but later stoe from the G4S officers.
The two stole money and items totalling to over Sh.75 million from the G4S officers.
However, the two denied the three charged levied against them.
According to investigating Officer Constable Joseph Ng’eno, the money and items stolen were being taken to an ATM at Nairobi West.
"The said money was destined for ATM restocking within Nairobi and the suspects were accompanied with three armed AP officers designated to escort the said cash," added Ng'eno as quoted by Standard.
So far, various people have been arrested in connection with the theft, some money recovered. More so, vehicles believed to have bee used in the theft were impounded.
