President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto on Sunday stayed off the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) talk, as the debate gathers momentum.
This was despite Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga and his deputy leader Hassan Joho's attempts to introduce the debate.
This was during the Mashujaa Day celebrations in Mombasa, where Joho is the governor, which were held at the Mama Ngina Waterfront and attended by all the four among others.
However, Uhuru proceeded to laud Kenyan heroes, lauding honest and disciplined journalists, detectives and prosecutors who have rejected being bought off by the corrupt.
"They are the investigators and prosecutors who brave intimidation and reject inducements so as to bring the corrupt and other criminals to face justice," he said.
The DP ignored Joho's attempts to pull him into the debate, after the county boss, while welcoming him to speak, challenged him to declare his support for the BBI and handshake.
However, the DP who has been questioning both the Uhuru-Raila truce and the BBI which they formed together, kept off the debate, sticking to the theme of the event.
Raila, in his speech, urged Kenyans to rally behind the BBI, terming it the ultimate solution to political exclusion and division in Kenya, further terming it unstoppable.
But this comes only days after Uhuru reassured hisbsuooirt for the BBI, which was followednby the DP saying that once out, the BBI report must he subjected to public scrutiny.
Meanwhile, the BBI taskforce has declarwdnits readiness to hand over its report of proposals to the nation's reccurent political issues to the President and the former Prime Minister.
