Gatundu South MP Moses has accused Deputy President William Ruto of allegedly forcing former Kenyan international footballer McDonald Mariga to join politics.
Mariga, who played for Italian giants Inter Milan, was cleared to contest on Jubilee party in the impending Kibra by-election scheduled November 7th.
There was controversy over his candidature, with Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju opposing Mariga's entry at first. The move caused rift within the party.
But in a tweet, Mr Kuria accused Dr Ruto of pressuring Mariga to contest, arguing that he should have first concentrated on nurturing talents before joining politics.
“Let Macdonald Mariga spend time to grow our football and our talents. Siasa itakuwepo leo, kesho na mtondogoo (Politics will always be there).
“@WilliamsRuto let the young man be. He will live to join this silly, dirty game of politics another day,” wrote Kuria.
According to a scorecard seen by Ureport, Mariga scored 500 marks out of a possible 600 marks, Ramadhan Hussein came in second with 371 marks while Morris Kinyanjui was third with 367 marks.
While Dr Ruto has not come out open on the matter, a number of his confidants among them Dennis Itumbi, have backed Mariga's candidature.
ODM party, which is considered as dominant party in Kibra, will chose her candidate on September 7th through competitive nominations. At least 11 candidates have been cleared.
The winner shall join Mariga, Eliud Owalo, Ramadhan Khamisi in the race to succeed Ken Okoth, who died in July following a long battle with cancer.
