President Uhuru Kenyatta could be facing serious impeachment threats due to his renewed spirit in the fight against corruption, Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has claimed.

Last week, Uhuru was forced to drop Treasury CS Henry Rotich and his PS Kamau Thugge, after the two were charged for alleged embezzlement of Sh21 billion meant for construction of Kimwarer and Arror dams.

And Ngunjiri, without giving much details, on Saturday said there is a secret plan to impeach the president by DP William Ruto's Tanga Tanga team.

“This is a premeditated plan by some leaders, who had been collecting signatures with such intent,” Mr Wambugu alleged, but without elaborating.

Last week, Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, a close ally of DP Ruto, bashed President Uhuru Kenyatta, accusing him of failing to lead the country properly.

A furious Sudi dismissed the fight against corruption, arguing that it was targeting a certain community. Also, he claimed that the relationship between the DP and Uhuru had deteriorated.

“Apparently, the relationship between the president and his deputy is like of a man and a woman who are married but sleeping in different houses and indication that the union is over. Kenyans should not be cheated to believe they are still in good terms,” claimed Sudi.

One-third of MPs are required to pass an impeachment motion. After that, the Speaker of the Assembly will send the motion to the Senate for debate.

A committee from among MPs is constituted to investigate the allegations before giving a final verdict to the house. Currently, Uhuru could be safe because hundreds of opposition MPs are on his side.
